BMW R1200R Eddie Lawson Tribute by VTR Customs

Switzerland-based VTR Customs came up with a tribute build to honour racing legend Eddie Lawson. He may be more associated with his tenure for Yamaha, Honda and Cagiva in the GP scene, or with Kawasaki in the AMA department, but that didn’t deter VTR Customs.

Eddie Lawson won the 500cc World Championship four times during the decade (‘84, '86, '88, '89), and was the AMA Superbike champ in ‘81 and '82.

The guys at VTR Customs removed the unnecessary BMW parts, and got to work fabricating a new Z-inspired tail piece. With a sharp angle at the back that emulates the Z-style, the team moved onto the BMW R1200R’s beast of a tank, modifying it to accommodate the tank mounted air intakes without compromising the rest of the design.

The engine was treated to a Kerker-style exhaust system and a wide range of race-spec parts, as well as an Akrapovic Titan downpipe, and a Unit Garage muffler too. The rear suspension has been swapped out for a single Ohlins rear shock, the wheels are custom Kineo units wrapped in Bridgestone rubber, and the build also features some BMW HP racing parts, including the fancy racing foot pegs.  The upholstery was custom made and all logos No 21 were hand-painted.
