A low cost, economy version of the GT125/RG125 single two-stroke. The model name GP was apparently adopted from racing world (Grand Prix), the GP125 shared the bore and stroke dimensions with the 1976/1977 Suzuki RG500 works racer.

The biggest difference between the 1978 RG125/GT125 and the GP125 was that the RG had a twin engine with piston reed valves while the GP a single cylinder engine with rotary disk valves. Suzuki Motor Company continued to build the model couple of years into the 1980's, perhaps even longer for export to New Zealand.
