The Suzuki DR 800 S BIG is a travel enduro motorcycle that was manufactured by the Japanese company Suzuki between 1990 and 1999. There are different data on performance and noise, but this is due to the stricter German regulations.

The engine had with 779 cc the largest displacement of all standard single-cylinder motorcycles, a double-executed constant pressure carburetor and dual ignition. In order to suppress the strong vibrations typical of single cylinders, the air / oil cooled engine is equipped with two balancing shafts. The engines require little maintenance, mileage up to 100,000 km are quite possible until the first engine revision. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 167 km / h.

For heavy terrain, the machine is not very suitable due to its heavy weight and high center of gravity, but it is suitable for traveling on bad roads or gravel, although the very large fuel tank is also useful. The DR BIG is used very successfully in rallies despite the above-mentioned disadvantages. The rigidly mounted on the lower fork bridge additional front fender, called duckbill, caused a stir at the launch in 1988 and criticism, but has now become a common style feature of Reiseenduros.

The chassis numbers start with SR 42 A / B and SR 43 A / B, with the B behind the model designation indicating the German destination, the A on European models. There are only small differences between the two, so the turn signals of the B-models are three-pole and those of the A-models two-pole.
