Although the model name GSX400F ceased to exist after 1982, whereafter the GSX400FW was released with a liquid cooling system, the model suddenly reappeared in 1988 (with internal GK74A code).

With the engine of GSX-R400R, as well as the frame and fairing from GSX600F, Suzuki introduced this as a low-cost medium-sized touring motorcycle in the Japanese market.

The bike was quite large and comfortable, as the 600-cc motorcycle, but the engine was too weak, and as a result the model never became popular.

It was available during the 1988-1989 model years.
