BRP Can Am Roadster Spyder SE5
Experience every thrill of the Spyder Y-Factor, plus a new shift in open road freedom. Discover a new semi-automatic transmission that allows you to shift gears with just the press of a button. Talk about easy riding. Nothing you’ve experienced prepares you for the thrill of hitting the open road astride a Spyder™ roadster. Its revolutionary 3-wheeled stance alters the chemistry between vehicle and asphalt. Leaving riders forever changed by what can only be described as the Y-Factor™ Can-Am Spyder Roadster SE5: Sequential electronic five-speed (SE5) transmission The new SE5 (Sequential Electronic Five-Speed), Semi-Automatic Transmission-equipped BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster SE5s have started being shipped to consumers. Those that wanted the ease of use and freedom will soon receive an early holiday gift, as most have been waiting months for the state-of-the art transmission option. The SE5 is an electronically controlled mechanical transmission that uses a simple thumb and index finger shifter which will make shifting more precise than a conventional manual clutch. This creates a smooth and seamless shift for both up and down shifting. No more clutching with your hand and shifting with your foot, all it takes is a simple push of the shifter button to go to your desired destination. "The SE5 allows even more enthusiasts to experience the thrill of the open road," said Marc Lacroix, Marketing Director for Can-Am Spyder Roadster SE5. "It provides a perfect opportunity for riders looking for the latest in clutchless shifting technology and a thrilling, sporty, get-on-and-go ride." With its advanced electronic and highly intelligent reflexes, the Spyder with the SE5 transmission gives new meaning to the term easy rider. Featuring five forward gears and one reverse, it is a true mechanical transmission that doesn’t compromise on weight or control. The SE5’s electronically controlled sequential transmission is ultra responsive, changing gears within thousandths of a second. Nothing else out there has the power to heighten your riding experience like the Spyder SE5. City or highway, the centrifugal clutch engages automatically when and only when you rev the engine. When you’re stopped it will help you avoid rolling forward – even in first – and you don’t have to ease off the gas when changing gears. It offers you such a smooth and seamless ride you might just forget to downshift. But no worries, the system will kick in and do it for you. Instinctively, no need to clutch or blip the throttle, and it will help you avoid stalling as you slowdown or come to a stop.

nervous system The Spyder roadster is a three-wheeled roadster for the road, with two wheels in front and one in the rear, and can be described as part motorcycle, part convertible sports car. It offers all of the open-air benefits of a motorcycle and many of the peace-of-mind features of a car, something not traditionally found in open-road riding. Its revolutionary 3-wheeled stance alters the chemistry between vehicle and asphalt. Leaving riders forever changed by what can only be described as the Y-Factor. Detailed Product Information: If you are not familiar with BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), it is the powersport company that produces Sea-Doo watercrafts, Ski-Doo snowmobiles and, Can-Am ATVs. With its new addition, BRP has products for the water, the snow, the dirt and now the open road! While initially concepting an on-road vehicle more than five years ago, BRP wanted to stay strong to its core value and innovative spirit by designing a paradigm-shifting vehicle. The result is the Spyder – a roadster that makes a true statement and is like nothing anyone has seen before – with a Y-architecture providing unique proportions blended with flowing-edge design. The Spyder has state-of-the-art power and technology, including a Rotax 990 V-Twin engine featuring dual-overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. This same 106 horsepower engine is found in a number of reputable motorcycles. It will be available with two transmission options, a sequential manual five-speed (SM5) and sequential electronic five-speed (SE5) transmission, both of which include a transmission-based reverse. The semi-automatic option is an electronically controlled mechanical transmission that uses a simple thumb shifter on the ergonomic handle. This creates a smooth and seamless shift for both up and down shifting. Plus, its intelligent technology automatically downshifts making coming to a stop effortless and worry free. This option will be available to the public later this summer or early fall. The skeleton of the Can-Am Spyder is built around a Surrounding Spar Technology (SST™) frame, featuring a minimalist steel center beam, surrounding the engine. It minimizes weld points for greater structural integrity. This light and slim frame provides a low center of gravity to enhance stability and handling. The nervous system of the Can-Am Spyder senses its surroundings utilizing multiple on-board Electronic Control Units (ECUs). These sophisticated systems monitor a broad range of functions, from wheel slippage to digitally encoded security information. The Can-Am Spyder features a Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) and a Vehicle Stability System (VSS) engineered in conjunction with Bosch, which features anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control. VSS...........................................Vehicle Stability System ABS...........................................Anti-lock Braking System TCS...........................................Traction Control System SCS...........................................Stability Control System with Roll-Over Mitigation DPS...........................................Dynamic Power Steering DESS.........................................Digitally Encoded Security System The Spyder is designed for powersport enthusiasts and people that consider themselves “weekend warriors” – those who enjoy touring and cruising the open road for fun, as a social activity and to be seen and noticed. The riding experience resembles that of a sport-touring, touring or cruiser, but cannot be labeled in any of these categories because of its unique and different "rider-active" feel and style.
