"Centopia" by FMW garage, is
based on a 1985 Kawasaki GTR 1000, and is one of the greatest
creations by Lorenzo Fugaroli.In
co-operation with Dario Lagatolla of You Garage cutting-edge
high-tech features was added to the old GTR.
The original
GTR1000 weighed 258 kg (570 lb) and the spectacular Centopia is
weighing in at a measly 168 kg (371 lb).
The monocoque
body is entirely handmade out of aluminum and hides a
state of the art hi-tech heart.
Polished aluminium panels have been riveted to the tank and
along the hidden rear subframe, keeping true to FMW's
characteristic steampunk signature.
Almost everything was made in-house: exhausts, chin spoiler,
miniature front fender, clip-ons, seat and flyscreen.
Centopia was
fitted with a special mount for a smartphone which replaced the
digital dash, and includes a most comprehensive interface with
the motorcycle, providing tons of useful data. All the motorcycle’s functions are shown on the
smartphone's screen: indicators, high beam indicator,
neutral light, tachometer,
water temperature, oil pressure, shifterlight, the speedometer
and odometer. A tiny bluetooth unit (5x3 cm), which uses the
original sensors of the bike, transmits all the information to
the smartphone within 2 ms: one of the fastest and most reliable
instrument currently available! This solution does not require
changes to the electrical system,
and can be fitted on any motorcycle, provided it has the
necessary sensors, it will relay the same data.
Any corrections or more information on these motorcycles will be kindly appreciated.
