Yamaha SCR950 Scramble by Palhegyi Custom

Yamaha's has revealed the latest "Faster Sons" custom creation, this time using its SCR950 scrambler as inspiration.

The custom was developed by Jeff Palhegyi, a builder who has an abiding fondness for Yamaha racing bikes, and has built 70-some customs over the past 20 years.

Palhegy's SCR950 project you see here draws inspiration from a 1966 YDS3C Big Bear Scrambler, which has been translated into a modern shape and uses up-to-date technology.

“After seeing the SCR950 for the first time, I knew that it would be a really cool bike to customize,” Jeff said. “But there have been a lot of scrambler builds lately, and we wanted to do something really different. It was during the press introduction ride that I saw the Big Bear Scrambler displayed next to the SCR950, and it ultimately became the inspiration for the build.”

Right off the bat, you see a modified rear subframe that now holds a custom-made triangular seat. Then' there's the shortened swingarm suspended by Fox RC1 Podium 14-inch performance shocks, vintage off-road fenders, custom exhaust, side panels and a shot glass taillamp at the back.

It also comes with Renthal handlebars that are wrapped in Duane Ballard Custom Leather that also matches the seat and fork tool pouches. To finish off, the knobby Shinko Adventure Trail tires wrap some Ride Wright 40-spoke aluminum soft lip rims, and there's also a custom made aluminum headlight bracket and skid plate.

“The SCR950 is a motorcycle that provides its owner with multi-function capability,” explains Yamaha Motorcycle Research and Development Product Planning Manager, Derek Brooks. “It’s a bike that makes it easy to commute to work or school, but at the same time, it’s a lot of fun to ride on the weekends. You can head to the outskirts of town where the pavement ends, and have a blast sliding around on gravel or dirt roads.”
