Yard Build Yamaha XSR700 TT "True Tribute"

.

This Yamaha XSR700 custom build, is a collaboration between Portuguese builders Nuno Capêlo of Capêlo’s Garage and Ricardo Santos from Elemental Rides, and was commissioned as part of Yamaha Europe’s Yard Built program, where they represented Portugal, with builders from nine different countries delivering bikes. The project’s theme was ‘Back to the Dirt'.

Nuno and Ricardo was inspired by the iconic Yamaha dirt bikes of the 70s and 80s, and gave the customized XSR700 scrambler a neo-retro look - and dubbed it the XSR700 TT "True Tribute".

They replaced the front suspension with a set of custom 43 mm right-side-up Showa forks, which are adjustable for compression and rebound, with 230 mm of travel. Rear shock’s also from Showa, fully adjustable and hooked up to a removable linkage to match the front wheel travel.

The wheels were replaced for a custom set featuring Talon hubs, Excel rims and stainless steel spokes.  The front wheel is 18 inch and 17 inch at the rear with Mitas enduro tires. The front brake was upgraded with an EBC disc, Brembo caliper.  The brake lines were replaced with Teflon lines and the ABS was removed to improve its off-road performance.

The 698 cc 74 hp parallel-twin engine of the Yamaha XSR700 TT has not received improvements except for replacing the airbox with a pair of washable foam filters to make room for the new customized steel tank.   The rear sprocket  diameter changed from 40 to a 52 teeth.

The 2-in-1 exhaust system is stainless steel and exclusive to this Yamaha XSR700 TT.

The original battery was replaced with a lithium unit, and a Bluetooth connection for monitoring via smart phone was added. The original instrumentation was replaced by an Acewell digital enduro model and now have LED  lights which include a daytime running light.

The front fender is from a DT125MX which has been shortened, while the rear fender comes from a Yamaha DTR and has also been cut to fit the rest of the rear section. The front cowling is from HP and also had to be modified to fit due to the new front headlight. The radiator grilles, the oil filter, the headlight, the aluminum cranksets, among others, were made from scratch for this project, and also received a seat upholstered in a completely waterproof synthetic material.

The colour scheme for the XSR700 TT is inspired by the 70s and 80s Yamaha IT blue and yellow.
