BMW R nine T Urban GS

.

First introduced in 1980, BMW’s R80G/S is widely considered to be the first adventure motorcycle. One year after its unveiling, a Marlboro-liveried, HPN-Motorrad-technik-prepped GS specimen was piloted to the Bavarian marque’s first-ever Dakar Rally victory, cementing the model’s legendary status and kicking off a legacy of iconic ADV mounts. BMW later honored its early GS models via the R nineT Urban GS, though Revival Cycles has further invoked the spirit of the HPN racer with this stunning R9T Dakar tribute build.

Revival Cycles is a full-service motorcycle shop specializing in antique preservations, restorations and full custom builds. They also dabble a bit in automotive work. This bike has a ton of upgrades and a few custom modifications performed in the Revival workshop in Austin Texas.

Revival's BMW Urban GS was built for a client and friend of the shop who is never satisfied with "good enough", he had us spare no expense upgrading and modifying what was already a fantastic bike right off the showroom floor. Over $25k was invested in the upgrades in addition to the purchase of a completely new motorcycle to start.

Our Urban GS is a throwback to the legendary Marlboro sponsored HPN BMW Paris Dakar desert race winning machines.

We've raised the bikes ground clearance by around 2 inches. To achieve that we raised the bikes ground clearance by machining over engineered front and rear suspension spacers. Then the front forks received Öhlins Cartridge upgrades before getting a full suspension tune front and rear.

Many of the body modifications are off the shelf components, From Wünderlich, Unit Garage as well as custom parts from Revival.

The OEM exhaust headers were shortened and a tunable Supertrapp exhaust set up fabricated before being ceramic coated flat black.

The factory airbox has been removed, replaced by aluminum backed DNA Performance filters and the side cover welded sculpted for the intake bell removal. Afterward the ECU was reflashed and the Fuel/Ignition systems remapped.

The custom seat involved carving new foam and a herringbone patterned seat cover using USA made Tasman leather which was designed and sewn in-house at Revival.
