BMW R 18 Berlin Barnstormer by Rough Crafts
BMW presents a new R 18 custom project. The Berlin barn striker was created in Taiwan at Rough Crafts. BMW has done it again and commissioned a well-known customizer to redesign an R 18 according to their ideas. This time the message went to Winston Yeh in Taiwan and his custom forge Rough Crafts. BMW got back the Berlin Barnstormer - the Berlin barnstorm - which optically leans even more strongly on the historic R 32 than the R 18 itself.
Foreign parts combined in a tasty way With its R 18 concept, Rough Crafts sometimes reached deep into the shelves of other well-known remodelers. The frame of the R 18 remained untouched. For an even deeper line, however, the fork and shock absorber were fitted with a lowering kit from Walzwerk. Yeh Y-spoke wheels by Arlen Ness in the dimensions 3.5x21 inches at the front and 5.5x18 inches at the rear are located between the fork bars and the swing arm. There is plenty of rubber from Metzeler. A 120/70 tire rotates at the front and a 200/50 roller at the rear. The upgrade for the brake system comes from Beringer. Six piston pliers bite into the double disc at the front, while four-piston pliers in combination with a Beringer brake cylinder decelerate at the rear. Motogadget contributes the indicators, Koso the taillight. Rough Crafts skilfully stages the headlights themselves with a grille.
Own creations as the crowning glory Of course, Rough Crafts didn't just screw third-party parts onto the Berlin Barnstormer. The tank was completely handcrafted. With its extremely sloping line, it reinforces the overall lines of the R 18 and visually comes very close to the coffin tank of the R 32. Aluminum tap covers close the gap between the tank and the steering head. The electrical system also disappears behind it. The newly shaped exhaust with the triangular muffler and the arm-thick manifold pipes underline the long, deep look of the Berlin Barnstormer.
A must is the solo seat, which, however, is very modern with a carbon fiber seat shell and CNC-milled holder. The extremely shortened fenders at the front and rear are also made of carbon fiber laminate. The grille for the oil cooler was laser cut from stainless steel. The boxer engine remained unchanged except for milled cylinder covers by Roland Sands and special custom badges. Source Motorrad
