Zero SR/S Custom by Deus Ex Machina
Michael Woolaway legendary master builder of Deus ex Machina and Zero Motorcycles, the worldwide leader in electric motorcycles, have joined forces to create the first fully hand-crafted customized Zero Motorcycle SR/S. The customization of the Zero SR/S is the first electric motorcycle designed and build by Deus. The design and build a truly unique, one of a kind electric motorcycle. “I wanted to do something kind of old and new, old shapes that I grew up with and new technology, no computer work, just foam, plastic, shaping and measuring tools, transfer tools and kind of the old school way,” Woolaway said.
Constructed entirely out of a single mold of carbon fiber composites, Woolaway enlisted aerospace engineers from Lockheed Martin to assist in the completion of the assembly. The custom body work wraps around Zero Motorcycle’s advanced powertrain comprised of a motor capable of producing 114 hp and a top speed of 124 mph. The Showa front forks and rear shock are WSBK-spec, with carbon fibre Dynamag wheels. The foot brake was removed and a custom thumb brake was fitted. The customized SR/S therefore comes without any foot controls.
At the back is a bare carbon tail with a Saddlemen seat featuring a neat high-voltage symbol. The high, flat bars of the original bike are gone, replaced with nicely angled clip-ons to give a sportier riding position. Finer details include a bikini fairing at the front with a single headlamp, a hand-blown windscreen from Zero Gravity, as well as little aerodynamic winglets that sprang forth from a repurposed Formula One winglet. The paint scheme highlights the mostly carbon construction with clear-coated panels.
