CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports new Mat Iridium Gray Metallic featuring black detailing that complements its jet black wheels. timeless Pearl Glare White Tricolour complete with gold wheels The CRF1100L Africa Twin and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports both receive striking new colour updates for 2023, giving riders the choice of three new looks for Honda’s flagship adventure machine. The athletic, lightweight and sporty CRF1100L Africa Twin receives two colour updates for 2023. Joining the iconic Grand Prix Red, which is being carried over from 2022, the Africa Twin will be available in Mat Ballistic Black Metallic now complete with an all-black frame, and a new Glint Wave Blue Metallic Tricolour which features a new blue headlight cowl, and blue front fender and tail sections with red and white detailing.
The continent-crossing CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports - which in 2021 accounted for 56% of Africa Twin sales in Europe- will be available in two distinctive colours for 23YM. The timeless Pearl Glare White Tricolour, complete with gold wheels, remains on the line-up and is joined by the new contemporary Mat Iridium Gray Metallic colour, featuring black detailing that complements its jet black wheels. Both models will be available with either a manual or a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Honda has sold over 200,000 DCT-equipped motorcycles across Europe since the system first appeared as an option on the VFR1200F in 2009. Testament to its acceptance in the marketplace, in 2021 DCT versions of Africa Twin, including the Adventure Sports, accounted for 51% of the model’s sales. For the Africa Twin itself, the figure is 41%, whereas for the Adventure Sports version, it rises to 61%.
A Compact Powerhouse The SOHC, 8-valve twin-cylinder engine produces 75kW at peak with 105Nm torque. But it’s the way this engine responds that thrills. With a 46mm throttle body fed by optimised ECU settings the connection between your right hand and rear tyre is pinpoint precise. So, whether hunting out grip on gravel or scything a set of switchbacks, you have ultimate performance at any rpm.
Designed to push to the limits The main frame and aluminium CRF450R-inspired swingarm are both lightweight and rigid. And, for precise suspension reaction, the 45mm Showa inverted front forks adjust for rebound and compression damping. Operating through Pro-Link, the Showa rear shock adjusts for compression and rebound damping, and also spring preload via a dial on the shock body.
Setup Perfection Control is what the Africa Twin gives you and at its heart a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) monitors the motorcycle under braking, cornering and acceleration. And this results in razor-sharp management of 7-level HSTC, as well as 3-level Wheelie Control and Cornering ABS. You’ve got four default riding modes – URBAN, TOUR, GRAVEL and OFF-ROAD – plus two full-custom USER options to put the bike you want in your hands.
Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) You can choose your Africa Twin with manual six-speed transmission or our innovative six-speed DCT, which can mean zero-stress and smooth, automatic shifting. Of course, you have the option to switch to lightning-fast manual control using the left-hand trigger-shifters, perfect for changing or holding gears off-road. DCT is also newly optimised for low-speed use in first and second gears and, for when the road runs out, a press of the G switch (on the TFT display) reduces clutch slip, elevating rear wheel traction and feel.
