Blurring the lines between motorcycle design and industrial sculpture the new Vanguard Roadster is a jaw-dropping creation whether you love or hate its style.

But what’s really surprising is that this isn’t a show bike, a custom one-off or a mere concept model. It’s the prototype for a bike that’s planned for production in 2018 with a surprisingly down-to-earth price projected at $30,000 in America.

Designed, engineered and built in New York City, Vanguard is an entirely new and distinct  premium motorcycle brand.  The owners, Edward Jacobs and Francois-Xavier Terny say the following:

"We created our own language, staying away from the ideas of heritage and nostalgia, using utilitarian, modular and functionalist approaches...

Utilitarian, as we place the usefulness or practicality before subjective attractiveness.

Modular, as we combine functions in a way that simplifies manufacturing and servicing.

Functionalist, as we strive to create parts and sub-assemblies not only functioning well together but also bringing a visual and technical balance.

"Innovation is driven by necessity – as we’re challenging and re-thinking motorcycle parts, components and technical functions...

A unitized crankcase with an integrated exhaust system, an encapsulated rear suspension and a shaft drive, combining several functions usually separated and using shielding materials from the architecture and aerospace worlds.

We are also introducing a modular approach to manufacturing that reduces mounting time, quality issues and allows us to build three different models with a common platform."
