This is the Aruba.it Racing Ducati Superbike that will be racing in the
2018 MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship.
For the 2018 World Superbike season, Ducati will once again campaign its
v-twin Panigale R superbike, which will be ridden by Chaz Davies and Marco
Melandri. This will be the final season for the two-cylinder Panigale R, before
the Italian firm replaces it with the Ducati Panigale R V4 in 2019.
The Ducati’s Superquadro v-twin engine is an impressive power plant, but the
race team in Borgo Panigale have reached the limits of their development with it
– at least within the constraints of World Superbike regulations.
For 2018 Ducati has added a vented airbox cover, through which you can see
the substantially sized air filter. The rear subframe also differs from
stock, with carbon fiber bodywork hiding an aluminum tubular frame.
Davies and Melandri both are using thumb brakes for their rear brake
actuation.
The factory Ducati squad have also been getting to grips with the new World
Superbike technical regulations including the maximum rev limiter which is
thought to have hit the Italian team hardest out of all manufacturers.
