Yamaha YZF-R1 20th Anniversary Suzuka 8 Hour Racer

.

For 2018, Yamaha will race the YZF-R1 20th Anniversary edition at the 41st Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race.

The bike gets a white and red paint scheme reminiscent of the first YZF-R1 which was introduced 20 years ago. Also, these race-spec bikes will have the letters 'YZF' and 'R1' on the fairing of the race bike as homage to the first ever R1 which was launched in 1998.

Katsuyuki Nakasuga, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark from the Yamaha Factory Racing team will be seen astride the special edition bike. The same livery will also be used by YART Yamaha and GMT94 Yamaha at this year’s race. The YART Yamaha team riders are Broc Parkes, Max Neukirchner, Marvin Fritz, and Takuya Fujita.  The GMT94 Yamaha team will be David Checa, Mike Di Meglio as well Niccolo Canepa.

Lowes says:  "It's a great honour to be asked back by Yamaha to represent them again at Suzuka. It's such an important race and one I really enjoy. Also, I'm looking forward to working with Michael and Nakasuga-san again after our success last year. I have a chance to win there with the Yamaha Factory Racing Team for the third year in a row and on the 20th anniversary of the R1, I can't wait!"
