BMW Motorrad is ready to get into the electric motorcycle world, and as such has
debuted an electric superbike concept, the BMW eRR. Built in collaboration with
the Technical University of Munich, the project explores the German brand’s
options when it comes to electric motorcycles.
“We asked ourselves: What happens when combining a sport motorcycle and an
electric drive? The experimental vehicle eRR brings the topic zero emission
and electric drive on a new, more fascinating level,” says Stephan Schaller,
head of BMW Motorrad.
the BMW eRR looks like an obvious retrofit
into a BMW S1000RR chassis, complete with the gaping hole near the rear tire
the that bike’s exhaust system used to fill.
Schaller does suggest the eRR offers
impressive acceleration, saying even BMW’s electric C Evolution scooter is
faster off the line, at least up to about 30 mph or so.
Most of the electric superbikes pack around
200 horsepower, and the eRR might do the same. Still, thanks to the
instantaneous torque deployment, 200 electric horsies feel much meaner than
200 petrol-generated ones.
Any corrections or more information on these motorcycles will be kindly appreciated.
