Ducati Monster 821
That’s why #welovemonster
Essential, sporty, hi-tech but - most importantly - fun. In one
word: Monster. Focus on the emotions
When designing each bike, Ducati constantly aims to ensure
maximum reliability and to reduce maintenance costs. A
commitment that has made it possible to lengthen the times
between Desmo Service scheduled maintenance checkups (during
which valve clearance is checked and adjusted as needed) to
30,000 km for the Monster 821. Even the simplest checkups like
the Oil Service have reached 15,000 km or 12 months. A
considerable range for high performance engines, which confirms
the high quality standards adopted in the choice of materials
and research and development processes. 25 years of Monster
The Monster 821 pays homage to the legacy of the Monster 900,
which over 25 years ago revolutionised the motorcycle world,
embodying the essence of true naked sport.
The Monster 821 gets an update while remaining faithful to its
100% Monster personality, unique and unlike any other.
Iconic design The design of the Monster 821 is 100% Monster. The volumes,
silhouette, tank and headlight are true to the original lines of the
bike born in 1993 but revisited with a modern flair. The iconic and
unmistakable tank also comes with a fastening hook, just like the
first Monster. The Monster 821 was designed with the aim of creating a slim,
simple and sporty motorcycle to highlight the original concept of
"sport naked bike". Great attention was paid to the tank, still
muscular but now lightweight and modern, and to the tail, compact
and sharp in its lines, supported by a new steel trellis frame. The front headlight of the Monster 821, contemporary and
technological, recalls the circular shape that has always
characterised the design of each Monster. The Monster 821 shines bright yellow once again, a colour that so
many Monsteristas have fallen in love with in the past. The bike is
also available in classic Ducati Red and matt black. PERFORMANCE
Let yourself be carried away by the new Monster 821. By the pure
energy that you can feel with every acceleration. By the stability
and reactivity that envelop you every time you bank and brake.
Sportiness, advanced technology and comfort allow you to enjoy every
moment of your ride. Thanks to high maximum power and torque values, fluid delivery
and a full torque curve at all speeds, the Monster 821's
Testastretta 11° engine can guarantee performance and agility to the
rider. The Monster 821's sleek chassis, along with refined ergonomics thanks to adjustable seat and separate rider and passenger footpegs, is the key to a superior level of handling that will thrill any rider, from the novice to the most experienced.
The sporty soul of the Monster 821 is also evident in the
powerful Brembo braking system, with two 320 mm discs on the front
and M4-32 radial monobloc callipers, and refined suspensions with 43
mm front fork and adjustable shock absorber on the back end. In perfect harmony with the road, the Monster 821 is capable of conveying pleasant riding sensations, supported by advanced technology and the specially designed ergonomics of this model.
The Monster 821's colour TFT instrument panel guarantees maximum
visibility in all conditions, allowing the rider to have all the
information needed, including fuel level, current gear, selected
Riding Mode, and the ABS and traction control levels. Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) from the Panigale is available as an
accessory for the Monster 821, allowing for gear changes without the
use of the clutch both during downshifting and upshifting. The DQS
system ensures more fun in sport riding and offers valuable
assistance in city traffic and on winding roads. The Monster 821 features the Ducati Safety Pack as standard
including Bosch ABS and Ducati Traction Control, both adjustable on
multiple levels depending on the road conditions and riding style.
The Monster 821's advanced electronics also include Riding Modes and
Power Modes, ensuring a high level of safety at all times and in all
conditions. The advanced materials and technologies of the Ducati Testastretta 11° engine allow for particularly long maintenance intervals and reduced running costs, calling for an oil change every 15,000 Km (or 12 months) and valve clearance control (Desmo Service) every 30,000 km.
The Monster 821 is driven by the twin-cylinder Desmodromic
Testastretta 11° with a displacement of 821 cm³, designed to be a
structural element of the chassis. With tailor-made and optimised exhaust and intake systems, the
Testastretta 11° engine delivers a high power output of 109 hp (79
kW) without sacrificing an extremely favourable torque curve that
any rider can appreciate. The anti-hop wet clutch on the Monster 821 is cable-driven and
requires little effort on the lever.
Tank and tail have been completely redesigned and give the new
Monster 821 a visually agile and slim look while retaining the
muscular and aggressive shapes that are key elements of the
Monster's DNA. The Monster 821 has a structure with a load-bearing engine and
the main trellis frame attached to the twin-cylinder heads. The
concept is derived from racing and was applied for the first time to
a production bike with the Panigale project. This configuration
allows for a very compact, lightweight frame, and, thanks to tubes
with a large cross-section, also a high torsional rigidity, perfect
for bringing out the dynamic qualities of the vehicle. The Monster 821 braking system guarantees high performance and
maximum safety in all conditions. The Monster 821 is equipped with a 43 mm diameter front fork and
a rear monoshock with spring preload adjustment and hydraulic brake
extension that utilises progressive linkage by fastening directly to
the vertical cylinder on one side and the die-cast aluminium
double-sided swinging arm. Thanks to a sustained but comfortable
calibration of the suspensions and agile chassis dimensions, the
Monster 821 ensures great speed during direction changes and a
riding pleasure within everyone's reach. The Monster 821 is equipped with 10-spoke light alloy rims
measuring 3.5" x 17" on the front and 5.5" x 17" at the rear,
mounting a Pirelli Diablo Rosso™ III 120/70 tyre on the front and
180/55 on the rear.
Headlight The front headlight of the Monster 821 is modern and
contemporary, while recalling the circular shapes that have always
characterised the front end of the Monster of each generation. The Monster 821 instrument panel features a colour TFT display
with an indicator of the current gear and fuel level. One of the accessories available for the Monster 821 is the
Ducati Quick Shift up/down, an electronic system derived from racing
that makes it possible to change gears without the use of the clutch
and without closing the throttle when shifting up, and shifting down
without using the clutch, but only with closed throttle. With the Monster 821, performance, riding pleasure and safety are
uncompromising.
Multilevel ABS To guarantee braking that is both robust and safe, the standard
Monster 821 is equipped with ABS Bosch 9.1MP braking system with
integrated pressure sensor, an integral part of the Ducati Safety
Pack (DSP) that combines the most advanced safety with the best
braking performance. Ducati Traction Control is an intelligent system that acts as a
"filter" between the right hand of the rider and the rear tyre. Riding Mode Ducati Riding Mode allows you to choose from three pre-set modes
to optimise the vehicle's behaviour based on the rider and the
environmental conditions: “Sport”, “Touring” and ”Urban”. Sport Riding Mode provides 107 hp of maximum power and a delivery
with a direct response of the RbW to throttle opening, reduced
intervention of the DTC system and level 1 ABS braking efficiency
with no rear lift control. Touring Riding Mode provides 107 hp of maximum power and a
delivery with a progressive response of the RbW to throttle opening,
greater intervention of the DTC system and level 2 ABS braking
efficiency with moderate rear lift control. Urban Riding Mode provides 75 hp of maximum power and a delivery
with a progressive response of the RbW to throttle opening, an even
greater intervention of the DTC system and level 3 ABS braking
efficiency with maximum braking stability and rear lift control. The Power Modes and ABS and DTC intervention levels can be set independently of each other to create custom riding modes.
