Project BMW R1100S by Radikal Chopper & Officine Mermaid

.

Motor Bike Expo is Europe’s premier custom motorcycle exhibition, where some of the most fascinating bikes are presented, and being crowned with Best In Show - “King of Verona” is one of the highest accolades that any custom bike builder aspires to.

The award for 2020 went to Adrea Radaelli of Radikal Chopper and Officine Mermaid, two Milan-based shops for their Project BMW R1100S.

Aside from the engine and swing-arm, almost nothing remains of the BMW R1100S, which it was based on. Each element was built from scratch, the bodywork is made of hand-beaten aluminum, which is the work of metal master Dario Denichilo of Ireful Motorcycles who has modelled every component so as to obtain a single body.

The intricate build is constructed around a fully custom two-piece chassis that’s married to a bespoke, girder-inspired front-end complete with a one-off fender, headlight, Discacciati brakes, clip-ons, levers, top triple, and a wildly-ornate set of fluid reservoirs.  On top of the custom meshed, slash-cut intakes, the engine has also been treated to custom cylinder head covers and a new one-off front-cover.

The hand-formed bodywork is comprised of a single-piece tank, which sits in the central part of the frame behind the engine in a lowered pier position, perfectly matching the contours of the trellis-style framework before feeding into a short tail-section that accommodates the bespoke slash-cut exhausts exiting under the seat.

The JoNich spoked wheels are something truly spectacular, almost hiding the wonderful Girder fork by FG Racing, another piece of metallic art.

This is truly a masterpiece!

"I really started from a blank page - Radaelli said at the time of the award ceremony - I took a BMW R110 S with a boxer engine and completely disassembled it, to change it down to the smallest detail".

Another great hit scored by Radaelli, now known and appreciated all over the world.
