Yamaha SR 500 D-Track

.

If you would to do a mutant cross between 60′s desert racer and Kenny Robert’s 70′s flat track bike, and all that on a cult Yamaha SR500, what would you get? A lean, mean, low and fast-looking bike that is soooo going back to roots. Well, KEDO and Jens vom Brauck (JvB – specialist for custom Ducati’s) done just that creating D-Track. This “back to the roots” machine features blacked-out rims, high mounted exhaust, big carb plus an open filter, machined alloy swingarm and Wilber shocks. It’s raw, but not intimidating, like a bike you could pull a wheelie on straight away, and have pure fun just running around the town. Jens adds:
“We’ve forgotten what biking is about,” … “it’s all about feeling – the sounds and the rhythm of the motor, the contact with the machine. It should be unfiltered, direct. We’ve got too sophisticated. The D-track goes back to the roots, it has a lot of soul and in the real world, away from racetracks and autobahns, it is fast, and it is performance that is easy to use.”

With the stock bike already weighing around 170kg’s, KEDO and JvB managed to shave an extra 25kg, removing old iron and plastic replacing them with beautiful stainless steel, alloy and sculptured composite materials. SR500 engine received couple tweaks, boosting the power to 50HP with the help of Mikuni round-slide carb. All this was sweetened with Harley style sportster tank. Jens vom Brauck made his name with radical Ducati specials, but his daily, all-weather transport is his old beaten-up, much loved and much modified SR 500. He’s ridden 250,000km on it and can change the engine in an afternoon. “An SR 500 has got so much potential and working with Kedo building the D-Track I think we’ve brought it out. It’s not that hard to turn a tired old rat bike into something really exciting.” The D-Track parts will soon be available in our 2011 catalogue. Customers will be able to buy most of the parts for this special. Check out our webshop for a special D-Track category regularly.
