This is the first official image of the Sportboxer and the closest thing to a Superbike BMW has ever built till 2008,

It was entered for one of the world’s toughest endurance races, the Le Mans 24-hour in 2007.

The 140bhp, 195kg (fully-fuelled) R1200S based machine was be ridden by road racers with BMW Cup experience: Stéphane Mertens, Thomas Hinterreiter and Rico Penzkofer, with Marcus Barth as the back-up rider.
